Unemployment Benefit Exhaustees Notice

On Dec. 27, 2020, a federal COVID-19 relief package that extends and provides additional federal unemployment benefits was signed into law by the President. The Pennsylvania (PA) Department of L&I is reviewing the new unemployment provisions and awaiting guidance from the U.S. Department of Labor outlining how the CARES Act program extensions must be implemented.

When guidance is received, PA will implement the extensions as quickly as possible to bring much-needed relief to eligible claimants.

If you have exhausted all available state AND federal unemployment benefits that you were eligible for, there have not been any federal or state legislatively passed extensions at this time.

The Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation programs will also expire on December 31, if Congress fails to pass an extension.

L&I cannot provide any additional benefits or assistance without federal or state legislature laws. However, there are state programs and partners offering assistance for UC exhaustees to get through these hard times.

You are encouraged to contact the Department of Human Services (DHS) at www.dhs.pa.gov, or by calling 800-692-7462. DHS may be able to help you with cash assistance, food assistance, health care coverage, home heating assistance and more.

You can also contact United Way at www.211.org, or by calling 2-1-1. Your local United Way provides resources in your community for aging, basic needs, counseling, education, health services, parenting, volunteer opportunities, youth programs and much more.
